The Paris Choral Society will perform on March 24 (8:45pm) and March 25 (4:30pm) Rachmaninoff's All-Night Vigil (also known as Vespers) a cappella at the Saint-Pierre de Chaillot church, at 31 avenue Marceau, 75116 Paris.
This beautiful and at times meditative work glorifies the rites and rituals of the Russian Orthodox mass from Saturday evening to Sunday morning. The evening office of Vespers constitutes the first part, during which the Light of Christ symbolically shines through an abundance of harmonic and contrapuntal effects, and the celebratory Matins of the second part rise in a dramatic vision of the Resurrection and end in a tender praise to the Mother of God.
