You're all invited to the Junior Guild Spring Luncheon on Tuesday, March 20 at 12 Noon in the Parish Hall.
Our special speaker will be the historian, author and long-time Cathedral parishioner Ellen Hampton, who will speak on "Women in Escape-and-Evasion Networks". Women were key to smuggling some 5,000 Allied aviators out of occupied France during the Second World War, from accompanying them to Paris train stations, to walking them across the Pyrenees in the dead of night. The women's most dangerous task was trying to slip past the Gestapo with American and British men in the disguise of "deaf and dumb" cousins from the provinces. Not all of them succeeded.
Last June, Ellen coordinated the exhibit on American volunteers in World War I, which was held in the Parish Hall and the Cloisters. If you missed it, you can see it on Ellen's website: ellenhamptonbooks.com/exhibits
