Wikipedia tells us, “The purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer for Easter through prayer, doing penance, mortifying the flesh, repentance of sins, almsgiving and self-denial.” That’s certainly the traditional take on Lent. Now we have a vast literature of spirituality to draw from. Plus meditation. Plus volunteering. No one can do it all, and so we all do it our own way.
In this Forum, three parishioners discuss their ways and more: Anne Marie Reijnen, our resident theologian, will provide us with deep context, while Walter Wells and Joe Coyle will offer their personal experiences plus what, as journalistic observers, they have seen, for better or worse, among other Christians.
