Dean Lucinda Laird's sermon for the Third Sunday in Lent, 2017

As our journey through Lent continues, we are joined by a remarkable character: the Samaritan woman at the well in today’s [Sunday, March 19th] gospel reading.  Unlike Nicodemus, in last Sunday’s gospel, she is not a leader; she is not a Jew; she has no status, no privileged position.  She is in fact something of an outcast in her own town. And yet she is the first person in the gospel of John to whom Jesus says directly that he is the Messiah, the Christ. To hear more, listen to the sermon here.
