Our long series of Old Testament lessons this summer have followed the life and reign of King David. Today we move to his successor King Solomon. All is not always rosy in the in the ancient Kingdoms of Israel and Judah, and the Old Testament writers are often very critical of their leadership. A dark chapter in our own cathedral’s history during World War II also sheds light on these texts, and the need to speak truth to power.
