Cathedral Forum: St Francis Then and Now

  • The American Cathedral in Paris 23 Avenue George V Paris, IDF, 75008 France (map)

As we celebrate the Feast of St Francis, parishioner Bill Tompson looks at what we (think we) know about the life and legacy of this remarkable man. Arguably the most honored saint in Western Christianity apart from the Mary the mother of Jesus, Francis has been admired (if not emulated) by millions, within and outside the church. He has also given rise to myriad legends over the centuries. While we can never be too sure of ourselves in trying to get at the “historical” Francis, this Forum will focus on his own writings and on what we learn of his life from contemporary sources. We will also explore the relevance of this 13th-century misfit and mystic to our 21st-century world.

This is a hybrid forum; please join us in the Parish Hall or on Zoom.
