Holy Eucharist: The Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost | The Blessing of the Animals

  • The American Cathedral in Paris 23 Avenue George V Paris, IDF, 75008 France (map)

Join us in person or online for Holy Eucharist. All are welcome.

This Sunday we will commemorate the annual Feast of St. Francis, joining with church communities all around the world in celebrating this occasion with a Blessing of the Animals. All creatures big and small welcome!

In addition to the Blessing of the Animals, Dean Harlan will be preaching a Children and Youth Sermon.

Children and young people will be invited to sit with him on the steps that lead to the chancel (the area where the clergy and choir sit) while he delivers the sermon to them. They will also be invited to stand around the altar during the Eucharistic Rite, so that they can see it up close. If they feel shy, not to worry - they may bring an adult with them. And they will be allowed to wiggle and wriggle!

Many thanks to the children, youth and members of the 20s/30s group who will be baking almond cookies in honor of the Feast of St Francis for Sunday's coffee hour. We encourage you to take an extra cookie to share with a friend.

Celebrant: The Rev. Canon Lissa Smith

Preaching: The Very Rev. James R. Harlan

Readings:

  • A Song of Creation | Song of the Three Young Men, 35-65

  • Psalm 8

  • Gospel: Mark 10:2-16
