Shakespeare’s comedies are, first of all, funny. Within the humor, often subtly and briefly, we find references to God, or sometimes to a transcendent agency of goodness beyond anyone’s control. It’s often this subtlety that helps turn the twisted plots toward reconciliation (though they don’t always get there!). In this Forum led by Professor Anthony Baker of the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas, we will read some dialogue from a few of the comedies together, and see what theological worlds the plays construct.
