The “Barbecue on the Beach”

Join us this Sunday at 10am for coffee, fellowship and an exercise in Lectio Divina focused on our gospel reading for the third Sunday of Easter (John 21.1-19). Lectio Divina (literally, “divine reading”) is a way of becoming personally immersed in a Biblical text. It draws on the way Jews read the Haggadah during Passover that retells the Exodus story. Haggadah means “telling”, and it captures the practice of telling and retelling a story. In the Christian form of Lectio, the chosen text is read four times, giving an opportunity to think deeply about it and respond thoughtfully, engaging it each time at a deeper level. When we practiceLectio Divina, we can imagine we’re actually involved in the events of Scripture. A typical Lectio exercise involves not only reading but meditating, responding and contemplating the text. Come discover this powerful spiritual practice as we explore the story of the risen Jesus’ encounter with His disciples by the Sea of Tiberias.
