Timeline of the Process
May 6th 2022: The Vestry spends over three hours participating in a prayerful spiritual discernment process to identify who to invite to serve on the five Transition Teams. During the month of May the Vestry calls individuals and asks them to pray with them for a week to see if they discern a call from God to serve on that team.
June 5th 2022 (Pentecost): The goal is for the teams to be formed by this date, so they can begin their work
Summer/Fall 2022: The Visioning Team engages the congregation in surveys and conversation to find out what members seek in a new Dean. The work required to post the position will be conducted in the summer of 2022 with the fall focusing on what members feel God is calling the Cathedral to be and do in the coming years.
September 2022: Major search conference takes place, attracting the largest number of clergy seeking a new position; materials from the Visioning Team will help us advertise for and attract applicants.
Fall 2022/Winter 2023: Applications for the Dean position accepted; The Discernment Team does most of its work, reviewing applications, conducting interviews, listening to sermons and checking references.
February/March 2023: The Discernment Team presents a shortlist of applicants to the Vestry.
March 2023: The Vestry listens to sermons and reviews the resumes, reference checks and other materials about the finalists.
March/April 2023: The finalists spend several days in Paris, hosted by the Discernment Team, to get to know the Cathedral and neighborhood and to be interviewed in person by the Vestry.
Spring/Summer 2023: The Vestry discerns who they feel is called to be the next Dean and negotiates a Letter of Agreement with that priest. When that is approved by the bishop, the new Dean is then introduced to the congregation and moves to Paris.
September 2023: The goal is for the new Dean to officially start their work at the Cathedral in September.
